Description
Join me online for a three-part workshop exploring portrait painting approaches and basics. Learn how to see the most important guidelines on the face and head to start correctly. Practice using a very limited palette to make virtually any skin tone, and quickly gain confidence in colour mixing. Suitable for beginner and intermediate artists.
My recent solo show at Peninsula Gallery was comprised of portraits taken from famous paintings, and I am just back from Rome, where I was studying a more classical portraiture style. I am excited to share!
The three-week workshop includes: demonstrations, lessons and questions, optional homework assignments, and an in-depth homework review on our last day. Sessions will be recorded if you cannot attend live. Materials list is basic and will be available upon registration. Oil paint is recommended (and is what I will be working with) but it is possible to follow along with acrylics.
“I feel like I have so many take-aways and am amazed that I made all my own colours and shades! You took the mystery out of it. I learned so much. Thank you, Mel! And so nice to spend the day with you just playing with paint!” – JS, Salt Spring Island
